One of the first thing Lindsey wrote to me, was that they where gonna have a legal ceremony around noon. That ceremony was gonna be pretty short. So she had a thought of somehow having a private ceremony of some sort before or after. The legal ceremony was gonna be held in the middle of the part of Denmark called Jutland, so I found some great locations for them to have a beautiful Commitment Ceremony.
We talked forth and back a bit on ideas and I then found out, that they had actually booked and were staying in a summer house very close to the danish west coast. One of my favorite places in Denmark is the whole of the western coastline, named Vesterhavet. It was an hour from the town hall, where they were gonna get married, so at first I had had some other locations in mind. But now an idea dawned on me.
So I was like: “I have an idea. You want a unique ceremony, so why we don’t we go all in and make it extra special? I know a hill with a beautiful view overlooking the landscape not far from where you stay. I’ll pick you up at your summer house before sunrise and we’ll go to the hill and as the sun comes up, you say your vows to each other and put the rings on.”
They loved the idea, so that was what we did. Before the sunrise I picked up Alberto. Lindsey drove with their friends, so they could have a first look, when we came to our first location. They had prepared in the same house, but had not seen each other yet.
They had their first look at the start of the trailhead. After that we walked to our destination, about a 20-25 minutes walk. We were going to a place called Gråmulebjerg, which is a hill with a stunning view of the Danish West Coast. It’s a beautiful walk and we were going in the dawning light surrounded by the unique west coast nature. So beautiful.
They had their best friends with them to be a part of their day and to share the experience. Lindsey had prepared a wonderful breakfast for after their commitment ceremony and just off our destination was a bench and table set, so we made a little base there and then we walked up the hill.
And there, overlooking the landscape, Lindsey and Alberto said their vows to each other and exchanges their rings as a sign of their commitment to each other and the promise of sharing a life together.
After their ceremony Lindsey and Alberto made a toast in their preferred spirits, whiskey. I had some too. When in Rome… (or in this case Denmark)
Then it was time for breakfast in those surrounding. That was pretty amazing. We took our time and then made our way back to the cars. Their friends went ahead with all the breakfast stuff and we took our time doing portrait on the way, while to sun was climbing.
They had to deliver their documents at 9 AM and we had about an hour worth of drive. I had another location in mind, one of my original locations, which was only ten minutes away from the town hall where they delivered papers and later would have their legal ceremony. They went and did the paper stuff and we then met a that location and went on a little hike in the beautiful nature to a bit more portraits. The heath nature exist only on the west coast of Denmark, except for a few rare inland heath areas. This wonderful place is called Grene Sande and is pretty cool for exploring and shooting portraits.
Before driving to the town hall for their legal ceremony, we popped a champagne and had a little snack. After that, it was time go and get the authorities in on the deal and sign the papers. That wrapped the day for me, but I know they planned a little nap and then went on to celebrate the day with their friends.
